Call for Papers: Special Indigenous Issue of ALCES - Showcasing Indigenous Leadership in Moose Science and Co-Stewardship
Alces, a leading journal in moose science, invites submissions for a Special Indigenous Issue focused on advancing Indigenous and western scientific co-production. This unique issue aims to amplify Indigenous-led approaches, showcase collaborative stewardship models, and increase the visibility of Indigenous leadership in wildlife management. Alces is primarily online journal, with issues freely available at http://alcesjournal.org/.
Why This Special Issue?
Despite the significant contributions of Indigenous nations to environmental and moose stewardship, Indigenous-led research rarely reaches publication. Indigenous science practitioners often face barriers in natural resources publication, including lack of institutional support, limited access to peer reviewers familiar with Indigenous contexts, and insufficient recognition of innovative co-management practices. This special issue seeks to bridge these gaps, offering a platform for Indigenous-led research, co-stewardship approaches, and cross-cultural knowledge-sharing.
Submission Scope
We welcome a broad range of contributions, including:
- Original Research and Case Studies: Reflecting Indigenous-led or co-managed moose research
- Policy and Opinion Pieces: Discussing Indigenous philosophies and stewardship approaches
- Collaborative Science and Methods: Showcasing co-production between Indigenous and western scientific methodologies
We encourage contributions from Indigenous scientists, their collaborators, and those working within or with Indigenous lands, governments, or organizations. Submissions will undergo a peer-reviewed editorial process, with Indigenous-literate reviewers to ensure culturally informed evaluation.
A Vision of Representation
Submissions from across North America and beyond are welcomed to illustrate the diversity of Indigenous-led moose science.
