Abstract

The use of hunter effort and observations for monitoring the trends of North American moose populations by different management agencies is briefly reviewed. The pros and cons of each alternative are discussed. These parameters have the potential to generate trend information which may be useful to managers but should be used in association with others. Consistency in collecting the data must be ensured to make comparisons valid.
