Abstract

Neonatal moose (Alces alces) were hand-reared for experimental studies on parasites. Forty-four of 54 calves were successfully weaned using a formula of 1:1 whole bovine milk:evaporated milk to which colostrum was added. Thirty of 36 calves survived from weaning to January 1. Milk formula and volume, cleanliness of facility, detailed observations and data recording, and prompt medical attention were considered most important for success.
